COUPLES BIRTH PREPARATION WORKSHOP

MARCH 2010 09 11 - 5 pm
Approaching childbirth can be a scary time for women and their partners/birth supporters. This active birth preparation class looks at birth from a logical, emotional and fun way. I focus on the positive experience of birth, the science and secrets to a more joyful experience and suggest ways in which you can achieve this.
The following subjects are covered: -
Making labour less painful
Ways a partner can support
Positions for labour
Breathing practise
Making labour faster
Using a birth ball
Writing a "Birth plan"
Massage
Water pool
Homebirth / hospital birth
The day is aimed to increase your confidence in the birth process, and reduce anxiety. Use of pictures, discussion, latest research facts, handouts and exercises make it an enjoyable and useful course. It is a chance for partners to learn more about ideas and reasons behind active birth and to share the preparation for the birth. Despite being reluctant to attend in the first place, many men find it very informative and supportive!
DATE: Sunday 26th Nov Dec 11am – 5.00pm. Location - Petts Wood, Kent - 2 miles from the PRUH and Queen Mary's

Firstly, wanted to say thanks again for yesterday. It really opened Steve's eyes to the different options of giving birth itself. For me, your session was invaluable re: him hearing about this from a 'third/ neutral' party. I reckon he thinks I've been winding him up! So many thanks once again... can't believe we're on the home stretch now. I'm really looking forward to the birth itself now. Nicole Nov 09
Thank you for yesterday. It was such an informative workshop. I generally have to drag Paul kicking and screaming to these things (well, he's very supportive, but it's usually pretty clear he
would prefer a poke in the eye to another conversation about my perineum!!). As we left yesterday he said he found the workshop really helpful, was really glad he came and that it knocked the socks off the NCT classes we went to (and a lot more reasonably priced!)! He was particularly impressed with the way you facilitated it - he said you made him and everyone there feel very relaxed (he was expecting to feel uptight - but actually felt v.relaxed and able to get into the swing of it). As psychologists, P and I often find ourselves running workshops and facilitating groups - and know how difficult it can be. I agree with everything he said - but I knew it would be fab! Lots of love and thank you for all your help, support, your wonderful classes. I am so happy I have attended your yoga birth classes and the Couples Birth Prep. It is extremely important especially for the husbands to attend the birth prep.I cannot thank you enough. You are such a dedicated teacher and the support and network you provide for mothers to be is absolutely fantastic. Alla 20/10/08
I just wanted to say what an enjoyable day we had yesterday and to my surprise Alex really enjoyed it and found it very informative..I today feel so much more relaxed and have a totally different view on pregnancy and giving birth. So thank you very much for the support and advice you have given me and I wanted to say thankyou for the workshop yesterday . Despite Jonathan not being too keen on going I think he found it very informative and interesting. I think it helped him meeting a couple who have been through a homebirth themselves.I think the workshop also helped my pregnancy become a reality for Jonathan too. I know it was really hard for him last and the reality didn’t kick in until we were in hospital and Joe arrived.I think we are both now so much better prepared than we were last time around and I think it has more to do with the workshop than actually being a 2nd time parent. Found out lots of information I did not know before the course. Glad I attended, learnt lots of new facts and ideas, which I am sure will help us greatly with our birth.Gary T (dad to Grace)
I was asked by Priya to attend the course and felt important to support and learn. Very impressed, interactive and informative, well organised, evidence based course. I would have let Priya down if I hadn’t attended. All men should attend! Thank you.Neil (dad to Amaya & dentist)
Calm and considered delivery of factually correct information in a universally comprehensible style. This is an excellently structured day. Thank you. Richard (dad to Charlotte and doctor)
I just wanted to say many thanks for the birth prep class on Sunday, I found it a great help. I don't think Martin found it too bad either!! He has even suggested getting an independent midwife, which I was stunned about, as would never have suggested it to him as thought he would dismiss the whole idea!!! I have always enjoyed all your classes, including yogabirth and baby massage, you really are the best!! I wish I was as naturally talented and knowledgeable. Thanks again.Rachael - mum to Finlay March 2008
